It all begins with an idea. Art is about my creative expression without words. Exhibitions share a point of view, build a perspective, open up a discussion, tell a yarn, elicit a response - or not.

On the Matter of…

Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre

This exhibition was born from a diagnosis of breast cancer.

I shared my story - the reality of living with cancer, the emotional turbulence of depression, and the hope of recovery and flourishing.

I invited the viewer, to consider my work not just as pieces of art but as expressions of humanity, vulnerability, and resilience.

To exhibit as part of the Art Therapy program in a medical context was truly a privilege, a responsibility and a risk.

Each day people walked in ‘my corridor.’ People - inpatients and day patients – allied health professionals and medical practitioners – the loved and loving people. Some people would get to remission – some not ever – some would die. All the people would have times when …….

With a breast cancer diagnoses I was encouraged to Zentangle.

Life cycle truths and the COVID years’ realties saw me yearning for possibly new, or plainly the lighting of a fire from deep within – something dormant and never given the space to be – let alone acknowledged.

The flame was lit. Past knowledge and abilities surfaced. New techniques and understandings were integrated with my life experience to then hang my art “On the Wall”.

My expression, emotion, my vulnerability in truth. A novice to all this – so much to learn beyond the art – my first exhibition.

Into the future …
